Gotta Start Somewhere

I’ve been struggling with what should be my first blog. I’ve scanned Pinterest for ideas. Read other blogs to see what would inspire me. But it came down to a few quotes:

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just the first step” – MLK

“Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction. Just start” – Unknown

So here I am. Typing. It’s an early morning. I’m sitting in my PJ’s still, a fresh cup of coffee. My pup Piper gently snores nuzzled up on the couch by my side, both of us relaxed by the sounds gentle rain outside. Perfect day for writing.

Oh and the things I want to write about! I feel my head will explode at time with thoughts I want to share or explore. I always have a notebook in my bag that I jot down ideas or topics. Whether it’s a conversation I over hear on the bus, or a juicy quote I’ve come across. I’m inspired from what I watch on TV, read in books, over hear on my morning commute, or see come up on my social media feeds. My head is an overgrown field of thoughts, dreams and what if’s. I love to write and I want to share it with someone. So here is my blog.

Let me introduce you to my writing companion Piper. I’ll write about her a lot I’m sure. You can learn a lot from your dog. They have a very optimistic and venerable outlook on life that we can all take a cue from. Piper is a very smart girl, sometimes too smart. She’s a rescue. She was in fostered in a prison. When I sprung her from jail she rescued me as I was suffering from a terrible broken heart after losing my fur-baby Morty. She’s a goofball, who makes me very happy!

“Just do it” Over the years has come to feels like my personal slogan. After all, my name is Nicole long derived from the greek goddess Nike, who personified victory. And what is Nike’s slogan? Just do it!

Just do it! Sometimes we are paralyzed by the little nuances of how, when, and perfection. The advise I’ve heard and has helped me is to do anything, you have to start. Nothing happens unless you take that first step. It might not be perfect, it might not be grand, but sometimes “something” is better than nothing.

It’s like opening a bottle of wine. Once you pop out the cork, the first glass (which hasn’t had time to aerate) may not be the best, but it gives you a taste of what’s in the bottle. Then when it’s had time for the tannins to settle, you are treated with glass after glass of delicious wine.

Admittedly this may not be the best blog I’ll write, but it’s a taste of what’s to come. And now that I have taken the first step, or popped my cork,  the flood waters are rushing out. So many delicious blog ideas I am preparing to share with you! I’m so excited to have this blog and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy righting it.

So what are YOU stuck on? I give you permission to just do it! Make today the day you take that first step!
